Mercedes-Benz Arena Shanghai’s 15th Anniversary Museum Is Now Open

Shanghai’s pre-eminent entertainment venue turns 15 — and it’s celebrating with a massive immersive exhibition dedicated to concerts, fans, backstage stories, and arena history.

Running from May 1 to July 31, the “Mercedes-Benz Arena 15th Anniversary Museum” is now open across the retail area of Mercedes-Benz Arena. The exhibition marks the venue’s 15-year milestone since opening in 2010 with Faye Wong’s first performance at the arena.

Over the past decade and a half, the arena has hosted more than a thousand concerts, sporting events, ceremonies, and large-scale cultural happenings, becoming one of Asia’s leading live entertainment destinations. The museum transforms those memories into an interactive experience blending music culture, fan communities, technology, and urban entertainment.

Four Exhibition Zones Across the Venue

15th Anniversary Poster Corridor

Visitors entering the retail hall are first greeted by a 40-meter-long installation featuring more than 500 concert posters from the arena’s history. The archive traces the evolution of the venue into one of Asia’s leading live entertainment destinations.

VR Backstage Experience

One of the exhibition’s main highlights is a fully immersive VR experience housed inside the venue’s Diamond Hall. Using high-precision virtual reconstruction technology, visitors experience the journey of an artist preparing backstage, walking through the tunnel, and finally stepping onto the arena stage in front of thousands of people.

Fan Co-Creation Space

Located beneath the Diamond Hall, this section focuses on fan memories collected over the past 15 years, including voice recordings, handwritten letters, photographs, ticket stubs, and fan support items. A special “Sound Blind Box Wall” also replays unforgettable live moments from past events.

15th Anniversary Collection Gallery

The final section of the museum showcases nearly 100 previously unreleased items from the arena archives, including signed posters, certificates, trophies, architectural drafts, and scale models. Featured artists include Katy Perry, Hans Zimmer, Zhou Shen, and Shan Yichun. An official merchandise vending area is also offering exclusive 15th anniversary collectibles throughout the exhibition period.

Free Entry with Reservation-Based VR Access

The museum is free to the public. Due to limited capacity, access to the VR experience requires advance reservation through the arena’s official mini program membership system, or eligibility through purchases made at selected merchants inside the venue’s retail zone.

According to arena management, the project is designed not only as a retrospective exhibition, but also as an experiment in integrating live entertainment, fan culture, retail, tourism, and public urban space.

Mike Cerha, General Manager of Mercedes-Benz Arena, said:

“The 15th anniversary is not only a milestone, but also a new starting point. Through this museum, we hope to revisit the arena’s history while also exploring new possibilities for live entertainment venues in cultural storytelling, fan engagement, and integrated urban experiences.”
