MERCEDES-BENZ ARENA SHANGHAI WINS AEG’S FIRST-EVER EARTH HOUR COMPETITION

SHANGHAI, CN  --- Last month, AEG partnered with the World Wildlife Fund to host their first competition spreading awareness for Climate Change during Earth Hour. On Saturday March 24th from 8:30pm-9:30pm in their local times, 18 of the world’s most iconic entertainment venues participated by turning off their lights including: Los Angeles’ Staples Center, London’s O2 Arena, and New York’s Barclays Center.

Venues were challenged to create an event or campaign to showcase their green initiatives. 
Winners were announced the following week with Mercedes-Benz Arena Shanghai taking home the Gold, followed by the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, CA (Silver) and a tie for bronze between Kuala Lumpur Convention Center and Gila River Arena in Glendale, AZ. 

For our winning campaign, Mercedes-Benz Arena Shanghai teamed up with partners at Coca Cola and Kofler & Kompanie Catering to engage with the audience at the JJ Lin concert on March 17. Fans of all ages took pictures with Earth Hour posters and shared their thoughts on the importance of protecting the Earth. We made a collective video (link below) with a special Earth Hour message from our concert artist JJ Lin.

On March 24th we hosted our friends from the Wellington International School Shanghai for the Earth Hour festivities including a sustainability presentation, ice skating, and candle lighting. The ending celebration was turning off the arena lights from 8:30 to 9:30.
