JAY CHOU’S SHANGHAI CONCERT WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD

This past weekend, Jay Chou proved he really is Invincible! Only at Mercedes-Benz Arena Shanghai could you witness Jay put on an unforgettable performance that kicked off his brand new world tour entitled The Invincible. Jay opened the show by hovering over the crowd dressed as an astronaut, causing the fans to roar with excitement. The virtual reality equipment and HD video clips created the illusion that we were all in outer space. Jay floated over the arena filled with pink LED light sticks that fans waved to the beat of every song he performed. Soon after being sucked into a black hole, Jay was transported to the stage and immediately loud screams filled the arena. A new, futuristic theme was revealed and Jay and his dancers were wearing LED lit outfits that matched those in the crowd’s hands perfectly. Just one example of Jay taking every opportunity to connect with his fans that night.

Jay Chou however he did not just simply display a space theme, he soon after transformed his set into a beautiful underwater world complete with a real life mermaid dancer! The performances were awe-inspiring and all of the technical elements of the show seemed to come together perfectly. Jay was able to capture his fans imagination and deliver all of his songs with precision and energy. From the highest level of the arena to the front row, Jay seemed to connect with all his fans on a personal level. After singing songs like “Hero” and “Warriors” the crowd was hyped up and ready for more. When it was time for “Old Indian Turtledove” crowd participation was key. If the camera landed on you, the band would stop playing and you would quickly have to yell “yin di an lao ban jiu (old Indian turtledove)”! Soon after, the crowd was put to work again and given a chance to sing a duet with Jay during “Coral Sea”. They began singing Lara Veronin’s part of the love song to Jay while he sang his part back to them. Love was definitely in the air.

This is Jay Chou’s seventh major tour and he has more than 20 dancers, 13 musicians, nine set designs, 7 custom outfits from Tomas, the famous Hong Kong designer and two outfits from MOSCHINO. The stylish fashion combined with the visual illusions created a treat for the eyes! Producing the show came at the hefty price of NT $160 million, Jay’s highest price tag yet. The price was worth it however because the show did not disappoint for fans lucky enough to get a ticket. Shanghai was the first city to open for his show in China and tickets to the show were sold online on Damai.cn. All 4 shows sold out in 2 minutes! A grand total of 48,755 people throughout the weekend witnessed The Invincible World Tour in Shanghai and the many facets of Jay Chou and his charm!

After debuting nearly 16 years ago, Jay Chou has grown and taken his fans with him on his journey. The Invincible World Tour serves as a way to thank those fans and make them proud!
